Sorry Ruffles, But I May Never Buy You Again!

One night I had a craving. A craving in a BIG way for some potato chips. And I can almost guarantee that in the last year, potato chips have sat in my cupboards maybe twice. So the likelihood that there was a bag in there was slim to none. I hunted on my favorite recipe site and came across this little lifeline to craving heaven. Behold…..the homemade potato chip. Less grease…way healthier…

2009 Savings Summary! Please Check this out!

I am not posting this to Boast! I am simply sharing this with all of you, just to let you know that you really can save a lot of money by using coupons & matching them to weekly sales. Trust me, if I can do this (I am not the smartest-especially not in math-just ask my 5th Grade Son!LOL!) than you can do it too! It does not take a Rocket Scientist to use coupons & Save Money!

Why not make a Resolution for 2010 to learn how to use coupons & save money? Stick around at Tips From A Mom of 3 to learn how!

Now for the Numbers- Drum Roll, please……..
In 2009 my Family spent a Grand Total of $3,704.59! That averages out to be about $309 a month, or $78 a week! That’s not too bad considering that we have a Family of 5, and a Big Dog! This amount is mostly for groceries, Health/beauty care items, and coupons & printer ink to get the savings!
We saved $7,139.29 by using Coupons & Sales!!!! That averages out to be saving about $595 a month or $149 a week!
Wowza! Using coupons really does save a lot of money!
*Tip: I save each & every one of my receipts, and every week I record/keep track of my spending & savings. That is how I am able to have these numbers. If you are not tracking your spending/savings then I highly recommend doing so starting in 2010! It really shows how much money you are saving & it helps to make you realize that spending a little extra time “couponing” really does save you a lot of money!
I would love to hear about how much you have Spent or Saved in 2009! If you’d like to share please leave a comment below!

Slughood and New Beginnings

Today I feel like a true slug. That’s one of those things that moves slowly along the sides and bottom of an aquarium. I want to move slow and absorb things, tea, water and whatever, and do nothing.
I was feeling bad about my low motivation and like I should try to shift my mood. Then it occurred to that life just can’t always be about action and moving ahead on goals. I am taking a few days off here, like everyone I suspect. But after high expectations for my progress day-to-day, slowing down is hard.
We all need to balance the doing with “being” time. It’s not easy. The holidays are fun but the pull for what we should do and feel can be taxing. We need time to absorb our lives, what’s happening, what we want, what’s needed ahead and how we feel now. Teacher Zen Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hahn says we all need a “Lazy Day” once a week. That’s a day where we do only the things we want to do. This allows us to be more mindful as we shed our more robotic actions for the day.
Tonight, I am beginning a series of questions I ask myself and others this time of year. These put the passing year in order and then perspective. I love doing this and helping others with it.
How do you close your year? What works best? These are good questions to ask ourselves now. The space created by these questions will help us make rich new beginnings.
Happiest New Year. May love, joy and prosperity fill your year ahead.
Warm regards,
Diane

It’s 2010…Well almost

This past year has been a bit crazy and sadly I didnt get to stay up to date with this blog, My goal this year is to post deals and freebies I find and attempt to post all my shopping but with a new baby due with in the next few weeks how much of my shopping I will be able to post is something I am unsure of but I will be keeping track of my savings and spending and my goal is 1200 again this year and with my stockpile as it is and the baby food and formula stockpile growing and the diaper stock pile complete I should be able to keep it close to the 1200.00 mark!

Happy New Years Eve Everyone and Welcome 2010!

Quote of the Day and idea for 2010

Art is supposed to be personal expression, but Phantom Hollywood movies deliberately avoid self-examination. They’re about self-pity and their plots navigate self-absolution for mistakes made through permissiveness, privilege and sheer vanity. It’s Complicated is textbook Phantom Hollywood, starting with its establishing shot of sun-baked gabled roofs and manicured lawns—the middle-class world that once was the setting for boulevard comedies written for the theater to entertain the bourgeoisie. Recently this Los Angeles luxe has become the default milieu for fantasies about Hollywood’s nouveau riche (see any Judd Apatow-directed film).

-Armond White, NY Press, It’s Complicated review

Art is supposed to be personal expression. This.  Maybe 2010 can mean a return to authentic engagement and exploration instead of tinfoil tricks and superficiality?
